ZONTA CLUB OF TRENTON SERVICE PROJECTS

Visiting Nurse Association of Mercer County

• The VNA was founded by the Zonta Club of Trenton 65 years ago. Zonta and VNA have worked together ever since. The VNA provides progressive, compassionate home and community health services to all those in need.
• Through the Hospice Program the VNA helps clients cope with extraordinary situations. The communities of Mercer County rely on the VNA to provide the highest quality homecare regardless of ability to pay.
• A Zonta Cub member to this day sits on the VNA Board of Directors. As a club, Zonta supports the VNA throughout the year by participating various events and functions.

Holiday Service Projects

• As one of our holiday service projects, our members collect clothing, monetary donations and a variety of toys for children of all ages for Womanspace and The Children's Home Society.
• Zontians contribute gifts and collect contributions from friends and co-workers.
• Also during the holiday season Trenton Zontians volunteer for the Salvation Army Christmas Drive by ringing the bells and collecting donations.

• Volunteering at the Fall Festival for the NJ State Library for the Blind and Handicapped
• Volunteering at Women’s Wellness Day for Heart to Hearts
• Clothing drive for Dress for Success
• Preparation of Comfort Kits for women entering the shelter at Womanspace
• Toy drive for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen
• Volunteering for the Communities of Light program at Womanspace
• Bell ringing for the Salvation Army Christmas Drive
• Food drive for Homefront
• Volunteering at the Easter Egg Hunt for disabled children at Drumthwacket
• Preparation of birthing kits for impoverished women worldwide

Our Past Service Projects:

• Clothing collection and preparation of emergency packs for Rescue Mission
• Toy collection for Children’s Home Society
• Bell ringing for the Salvation Army Christmas Drive
• Donations of Good Bears of the World to various community programs involving the elderly and children
• Livestock purchases for impoverished families worldwide through Heifer Project International
• Reading to elementary school students
• Volunteering at the Easter Egg Hunt for disabled children at Drumthwacket
• Preparation of mailings for PEI Kids
• Preparation of Back –to-School backpacks for Homefront
• Donation of English dictionaries and coat collection for Burmese refugees

Our Fundraisers

The R.A.V.E. Walk (Rape and Violence Eradication)

• The Domestic Violence Victim Response Teams of Mercer County (DVVRT) are the beneficiaries of our annual October RAVE walk. DVVRT are partnerships between Womanspace, Municipal Police Departments and community volunteers. Trained community volunteers meet with victims of domestic violence, after the event, in specially equipped area in municipal police stations. Volunteers provide victims and their children with emotional support and furnish community resources.
• Club members, family, friends, co-workers and area community volunteers participate by soliciting monetary donations and product gifts and than walk in Cadwalader Park, Trenton on the day of the October event.
• The objective of this service project is to make a grassroots difference in the lives of those manipulated by domestic violence in Mercer County through support of Womanspace (non-profit organization providing counseling and services to victims of domestic abuse) and the County Domestic Violence Victim Response Teams.

Gourmet Garden

The Zonta Club hosts an annual food and wine tasting event to raise funds to support various programs to improve the status of women and children worldwide. Each year a nonprofit organization from Mercer County is awarded funds for a program or project to benefit women and children in our communities.
