Improving  the Status of Women


International Day of the Family

The Zonta Club of Trenton/Mercer  and the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women host an annual  contest for children to celebrate the United Nations International Day  of Families. Children from schools throughout Mercer County submit  artwork or an essay that reflects their impression of What Family Means  to Me. In 2010, contest winners were selected from the following  schools: Trenton Catholic Academy, Hamilton Twp., Eldridge School,  Lawrence Twp., Slackwood School, Lawrence Twp., Franklin School,  Trenton, NJ, Villa Victoria School, Ewing, and Toll Gate Grammar School, Hopewell Twp.

Zonta Day of Family 2010

Standing with the Day of the Family  Art/Essay contest winners are Sue Methot (Zonta Day of the Family  Co-chair), Mary Grace Billek, Director, Mercer County Department of  Human Services, Wendy Cohen, Vice-President, Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women, and Susan Valentine, Zonta Club President.

To have your class participate:

Download the contest form. In the space provided, have children draw a picture or submit an essay on What Family Means to Me by May 2010, mail contest entries to:

One winner from grade between preschool and grade eight will be selected.

Each selected winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. The Zonta Club will contact the teacher of children selected as winners. Gift certificates were distributed to children with the winning entries at Lawrenceville Library.
